Mason's first bash!

Happy Birthday, Mason! We celebrated Mason's first birthday in grand style, much like Braden's, in the backyard! We had the kiddie pools out once again, and Braden had several friends in attendance as well. Above is the cake! Sweet Designs Cakery did an excellent job of creating this eggless masterpiece, by frosting a stack of rice crispy treats. I didn't do such a great job of getting it on the cake stand, you can see the smudged corner!

Instead of cupcakes in the cupcake tree, I put some jars of baby food, juice, and trail mix in a few cupcake cups.

A few of the "big kids" playing in the fancy pool! Braden used some of his birthday money two years ago to buy this pool with steps and a slide!

Little brother, Dylan above and big brother Zach, below.

The parents relaxing in the shade!

Dylan enjoying the pool, after one of the big kids took a dive and left leaves behind!

Here comes the cake!

Becky and her baby girl, Emily! I work with Becky, and her girls go to school with Braden.

Lydia (Becky's oldest), Braden, Will and Gracie found the chips & salsa!

Paying close attention to whatever Mr. Todd is telling them!

Daddy was so brave to be the one to remove him from his chair!

He couldn't wait to get in the pool!

Daddy getting the frosting out of his ear!

Finally he gets a dip in the pool!

About Mason
Things he can say:
Mamamamamama, Dadadadadad, Bbbbbbbbb (Braden), da (everything he points to), ga (we think go)

Schedule:
6:15 a.m. - up for the day!
8:00 a.m. - breakfast
9:30ish - short morning nap
10 a.m. - bottle
11:30 - lunch (fresh fruit, cubed cooked carrots, Gerber 3rd foods meal, freeze dried fruit snacks or star puffs/Cheerios)
12:30 - long afternoon nap (between 1.5 to 2 hours)
3:00 - bottle
5:30 - dinner (similar to lunch)
6:00 - bath
7 - 7:30 p.m. - bottle & bed
4:30 a.m. - awake!!! Bottle for now but we're working on that! Back to sleep.

Took your first steps on Braden's 5th birthday, for Daddy! You'll take about 8 steps, but it's still easier to crawl!

You can "sign" when you want more food, tapping your fist to an open hand. We're working on a few more.

We must talk on the phone too much because anytime it rings you hold your hand to your ear and say "hi" I found an Elmo cell phone Braden had as a baby and it sings "Lalalala, Elmo's World" so now you open it and move your tongue but don't actually say "Lalalala"

You also take medicine very well. Daddy lets you hold the syringe and you put it right in your mouth.

You also love to put the spoon in your jars of food and help me get the food on it and put it in your mouth.

Things you love:
TO BE OUTSIDE! You always want to go outside when we walk by the door, and you start waving your hand.

Oustide you love to play on the little playset, peeking through the different windows, climbing in and out of the kiddie pool, playing in the sandbox, and sliding down the "big" slide. You now have your own swing on the big playset and you love this, too! At first you did NOT enjoy the feel of the grass, but you're getting used to it! Sometimes you'll even crawl across the concrete patio. This hurts me to watch so I usually scoop you up.

You love to dig into the kitchen cabinets, we've locked all but the one with the plastic plates, bows and cups that you and Braden use.

You love to hold onto our fingers and walk.

You love to go bye, bye in the morning with Daddy. You're starting to blow kisses, and as soon as he picks you up, you start waving!

Things you know you're not supposed to do:
We have to keep the stairs blocked, so you don't climb them, and this makes you very angry.

You also seem to go straight for the toilets and get mad anytime you hear the bathroom door shut. We are learning to keep them shut at all times.

Anytime you went in Braden's room you would go directly to his night light, I finally had to unplug it and childproof the plug!

You also want the phone.

Things you hate:
When we turn the water off in the bath tub.

Being on your changing table.

Sometimes being put in your car seat, you arch your back

Riding in your car seat for too long!

When anyone tells you "no" you crumple into tears.

Getting your finger and toe nails clipped.

Being put down for nap. We put you in your crib until you fall asleep. You do much better at bedtime.

Welcome to our "office"

Our "office" is a loft space at the top of our stairs. When we first moved in this space was full of boxes needing to be unpacked and our computer was in the "extra" room which is now Mason's nursery. I love this space.

I had vinyl designs cut that I applied to these 99 cent clip boards

The shoe painting is a relic from my college days. My extremely talented friend, Sara Beth, whipped this out during class and I fell in love with it!

Keeping it "real" this is my pile of "stuff" to be dealt with, and Braden's color pages on the side of the filing cabinet.

Happy Birthday Mr. Mason

Thank you everyone for all of the cards and gifts that have arrived in the mail this week (Nana, Papa, Ann & Kenneth, Nan & Pop, The Harris', and the Dickerson's!)

I'm so glad Mason will not remember this day, because it was not the best birthday ever! He started off the day (above) with Mom trying to get a great Birthday picture, which he lost patience with very quickly. Then I took him to the doctor for the last of a 3 day antibiotic shot for ear infections. I picked him up early and we had a few friends come over for a playdate, even one his age. He was a little fussy, so I tried a nap, which he refused.

Daddy got this great shot after bath, but the picture below is what the rest of the night was like until bedtime. On top of the ear infections he's cutting his cuspids and first molars.

Mason has a much better time on Tuesday. We went to a Rotary picnic at the local park and he loved being outside, playing on the playground a little bit, and watching Braden ride the train. That might not have been fun, but he got to ride on Daddy's shoulders, and this time didn't puke on Daddy's head!!!

On Monday there was a package waiting for the boys, and Braden had no problems opening it! Thank you Dickerson's for the great books!

One already!

Now it's time to focus on Mason's First Birthday!!!!! Although there are moments when I never thought it would get here in all honestly this last year has flown by! Mason took his first steps on Braden's birthday, last Tuesday. We were out to dinner and Kiddieland with Will, but Blake sent me about 3 text messages about Mason's progress. . .2 steps, 3 steps, then 4 steps! He'll do it with encouragement, but for speed will still crawl!

We're planning round two of the kiddie pools this weekend, but no snow cones! I think they'll have fun just splashing in the pools!

Backyard Bash

Sabrina just shared this adorable pic of Braden, Will & River, I love it!

We celebrated Braden's 5th birthday with a "Super Hero" bash on Saturday. I think we've got the pool party down to a science. As long as we have sunshine the kids are willing! We had 4 kiddie pools in the back yard, the new swing set and the sandbox. Braden had a few requests. He wanted balloons that float (helium filled) and silly string. Including a few siblings, Braden had 20 friends at his party. I'm worried he might not be very popular!!! This was a combination of invitations being sent to two preschool classes and our friends outside of preschool. His list was actually longer than 20, but I had to cut it off somewhere!

From this angle you can see the balloons that float, the banner we had made for his first birthday (Thank you Lia) and our drink station. Each child got a hard plastic cup that I wrote their name on and they could get as much water or lemonade as they wanted!

The cake. These are super hero guys we dug out of his toy bins to accessorize the super hero cake. (Thank you Heather)

Our party favors. I don't do goody bags, but try to find a Dollar Tree gem that each kid would like. I found these foam shields on a trip to visit family, on the $1 aisle, then I paired the sword like water shooters from our local Dollar Tree with them. The tags have the photo from the invite and "Thanks" printed on them. Even the girls liked them!

Our first guest, LJ, from next door, checking out the super hero poster and the lemonade!

After a trip to the tattoo parlor (aka Jessica under our shade tree) we had Spiderman for the guys and Hannah Montana tats for the girls!

Our baby whisperer, Suzie! She was Mason's date for most of the day!

Blake did an amazing job arranging for the Jolly Trolley (our local snow cone cart) to arrive at 3:00. ALL of the guests (parents included) got a ticket for a snow cone. This was a HUGE HIT!

Love this pic of Janet and Andrew.

Birthday boy got the first snow cone!

We were able to get a quick shot of Braden with the cake and cupcakes before taking it outside!

Making a wish!

Too many choices. They could have Spiderman, Hulk, or Batman and either chocolate or vanilla!

Mason and Alex

Opening the gits! Braden's biggest gift wish was silly string, so I mentioned it to several people. As he opened this package of water guns I passed them out among the guests!

I had a few cans to add to the ones he got as gifts and all the kids were able to have a big silly string party after the gifts were opened!

All in all it was a great time! We had a cookout after for close friends, and the kids continued to play until 7:30 p.m.
